You can take lessons to become almost anything: flying lessons, piano lessons, skydiving lessons, acting lessons, race car driving lessons, singing lessons. but there's no class for comedy. you have to be born with it. god has to give you this gift.

You have to stand up and be a human. you have to honor the man or woman that you are. respect your body, enjoy your body, love your body, feed, clean, and heal your body. exercise and do what makes your body feel good. this is a puja to your body, and that is a communion between you and god. . . . when you practice giving love to every part of your body, you plant seeds of love in your mind, and when they grow, you will love, honor, and respect your body immensely.

We relate to leonardo da vinci because his genius was just being passionately curious about everything. he wanted to know everything he could know about our universe, including how we fit into it. we can't all have a superhuman intellect like albert einstein's, but we can be super-curious. and we can also quit smashing curiosity out of the hands our children.

I think, as human beings, we at times overvalue the intellect and we undermine the body. i don't mean a body externally and the shape of a body. i mean the intelligence of a body, the memories that a body can store, how a body feels emotion, and how a body processes emotion.

Meditation is to be aware of what is going on - in our bodies, in our feelings, in our minds, and in the world. each day...children die of hunger.... yet the sunrise is beautiful, and the rose that bloomed this morning along the wall is a miracle. life is both dreadful and wonderful. to practice meditation is to be in touch with both aspects. please do not think we must be solemn in order to meditate. in fact, to meditate well, we have to smile a lot.

As i accepted the change of the golden hair of my childhood to the reddish-brown hair of my youth without regret, so i also accept my silver hair-and i am ready to accept the time when my hair and the rest of my clay garment returns to the dust from which it came, while my spirit goes on to freer living. it is the season for my hair to be silver, and each season has its lessons to teach. each season of life is wonderful if you have learned the lessons of the season before. it is only when you go on with lessons unlearned that you wish for a return.
