Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. judicial decrees may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless.

We cannot solve a problem by saying, "it's not my problem." we cannot solve a problem by hoping that someone else will solve it for us. i can solve a problem only when i say, "this is my problem and it's up to me to solve it."

When our embassy is attacked in benghazi by terrorists and there is no response, you get more bad behavior. when russia invades ukraine and there is no response, you get more bad behavior. when syria crosses the red line and there is no response, you get more bad behavior. when iran launches tests of ballistic missiles and there is no response, you get more bad behavior. when north korea attacks sony pictures and there is no response, you get more bad behavior. in other words, mrs. clinton, you cannot lead from behind. we must respond when we are attacked or provoked.

Solving the population problem is not going to solve the problems of racism, of sexism, of religious intolerance, of war, of gross economic inequality. but if you don't solve the population problem, you're not going to solve any of those problems. whatever problem you're interested in, you're not going to solve it unless you also solve the population problem. whatever your cause, it's a lost cause without population control.

True eloquence makes light of eloquence, true morality makes light of morality; that is to say, the morality of the judgment, which has no rules, makes light of the morality of the intellect.... to make light of philosophy is to be a true philosopher.

It is not given to man to know the whole truth. his duty lies in living up to the truth as he sees it, and in doing so, to resort to the purest means, i.e., to non-violence. god alone knows absolute truth. therefore, i have often said, truth is god. it follows that man, a finite being, cannot know absolute truth. nobody in this world possesses absolute truth. this is god's attribute alone. relative truth is all we know. therefore, we can only follow the truth as we see it. such pursuit of truth cannot lead anyone astray.
