There are a lot of good comics, no doubt, but as far as the quality of the comics goes, i think what you have is a bunch of situational comics - there are black comics that work only black crowds, gay comics that do only gay crowds, and southern comics that only work down south, and so on with asian, latino, indian, midgets, etc. the previous generation's comics were better because they had to make everybody laugh.

The lovely thing about writing comics for so many years is that comics is a medium that is mistaken for a genre. it's not that there are not genres within comics, but because comics tend to be regarded as a genre in itself, content becomes secondary; as long as i was doing a comic, people would pick it up.

Comic books sort of follow with the move - if people see the movie and if they're interested in the character and want to see more of the character, they start buying the comic books. so a good movie helps the sale of the comic books and the comic books help the movie and one hand washes the other. so, i don't think there's any reason to think that comics will die out.

Almost any tale of our doings is comic. we are bottomlessly comic to each other. even the most adored and beloved person is comic to his lover. the novel is a comic form. language is a comic form, and makes jokes in its sleep. god, if he existed, would laugh at his creation. yet it is also the case that life is horrible, without metaphysical sense, wrecked by chance, pain and the close prospect of death. out of this is born irony, our dangerous and necessary tool.

I really love animation as a storytelling medium, whether it's traditional, cel animation, or cg, or stop motion, which is more our studio's area of focus. but i find that the creatives behind any kind of animation are typically very similar, and so regardless of what aesthetic they use to realize their vision, i'm usually pretty into it.
