There's a good sarcasm and a camaraderie that comes after being in a band. and we've known each other forever. we've never been a band that fought or argued. as a songwriter, i'm really happy that the boys support me and contribute and that, but i've always wanted to be under the band stereophonics.

Early on, before rock 'n' roll, i listened to big band music - anything that came over the radio - and music played by bands in hotels that our parents could dance to. we had a big radio that looked like a jukebox, with a record player on the top. the radio/record player played 78rpm records. when we moved to that house, there was a record on there, with a red label. it was bill monroe, or maybe it was the stanley brothers. i'd never heard anything like that before. ever. and it moved me away from all the conventional music that i was hearing.

I think there will always be great new music and bands. as long as there's people around, there's going to be great music. i think there's bands like wolf eyes, q & not u, the evens and many others that are doing great stuff. the music that doesn't please you, you just don't listen. no one makes me listen to nickelback, so long may they wave.

The music industry is not what it used to be. being in a good band is great, and i've been lucky to be in great bands. i've done solo stuff, and that's been great. i also produce rock bands and i do co-writes, where i write with different singers in bands and songwriters.

Success is how you collect your minutes. you spend millions of minutes to reach one triumph, one moment, then you spend maybe a thousand minutes enjoying it. if you were unhappy through those millions of minutes, what good is the thousand minutes of triumph? it doesn't equate... life is made of small pleasures. good eye contact over the breakfast table with your wife. a moment of touching a friend. happiness is made of those tiny successes. the big ones come too infrequently. if you don't have all those zillions of tiny successes, the big ones don't mean anything.

My all time favorite band is paramore and she's basically one of the reasons i was inspired... umm, well hayley williams from paramore was one of the basic reasons i wanted to go rock. i saw the band live and they're great together and they write incredible music and also i like a lot of older bands. i like motley crue a lot and who else, i've got a lot of favorite bands but those are pretty much the main ones.
