General welfare is a general condition - maybe sound currency is general welfare, maybe markets, maybe judicial system, maybe a national defense, but this is specific welfare. this justifies the whole welfare state - the military industrial complex, the welfare to foreigners, the welfare state that imprisons our people and impoverishes our people and gives us our recession.

I have tried to devote my life - with all my husband failures, father failures, pastor failures, friend failures, any other possible failures i'm sure i've done them - to the god-centeredness of god and my aspiring, yearning to join him in that activity. god is passionate about hallowing the name of god.

I have had many successes and many failures in my life. my successes have always been for different reasons, but my failures have always been for the same reason: i said yes when i meant no.

The preamble to the constitution states: "we, the people of the united states, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare..." it doesn't say "guarantee the general welfare." and it certainly doesn't say "give welfare benefits to all the people in the country who aren't doing so well even if the reason they aren't doing so well is because they're sitting on their butts in front of the tv".

Life is a mixture of successes and failures. may you be encouraged by the successes and strengthened by the failures. as long as you never lose faith in god, you will be victorious over any situation you may face.

When government does, occasionally, work, it works in an elitist fashion. that is, government is most easily manipulated by people who have money and power already. this is why government benefits usually go to people who don't need benefits from government. government may make some environmental improvements, but these will be improvements for rich bird-watchers. and no one in government will remember that when poor people go bird-watching they do it at kentucky fried chicken.
