The thinnest i've ever been was after i had my appendix out, during the london run of the seagull. i went down to 112 pounds and realized my brain doesn't work when i'm that thin, so i can't do my job. that's why, when i came out here, i never had that whole hollywood pressure thing. i never said i wanted to be a lead actress; i never said i wanted to be a film actress. this need to trump everyone bewilders me. i'm only 25. i'm not better than anyone. i just want to watch other people and learn to be good.

I've been working in theater, really, since about 1965. i started working with the mabou mines about then, and in a way i've always worked in the theater, but it's never been a main part of my work. and it wasn't until einstein that i kind of shifted into high gear with theater, working with bob, with bob wilson. and since then i find it a very attractive form to work in. it's just an extension of my work.

I decided that i want to live the rest of my life happy with what i'm doing. so when i play tennis again, i have to play it for the right reason. i don't want to play to get my no. 1 ranking back. i don't want to play for the attention, or to earn more. i don't even want to play because the world wants to see me do it, even though it's nice to know that the world is interested. i only want to play because i love the game, which is the reason i began to play at age seven in the first place.
