Cool is spent. cool is empty. cool is ex post facto. when advertisers and pundits hoard a word, you know it's time to retire from it. to move on. i want to suggest, therefore, that we begin to avoid cool now. cool is a trick to get you to buy garments made by sweatshop laborers in third world countries. cool is the triumph of the will. cool enables you to step over bodies. cool enables you to look the other way. cool makes you functional, eager for routine distraction, passive, doped, stupid.

I hadn't worked for a year when i had my prison break audition and it was the easiest audition i've ever had. i got the script on friday, went to the audition on monday and got the part on tuesday. i was shooting the pilot a week later. i didn't have time to be nervous - it happened so quickly.

My first paid acting job was a movie called fandango. it also starred kevin costner.

This january, kevin costner will be honored by the palm springs international film festival for his contribution to film. this gives costner just two months to make a contribution to film.

The script [of regression] wasn't the draw for me. it was largely alejandro [amenabar] and his way of talking. to hear him talking about the script was way more interesting than the script. he wrote it, and so, english is his second language. it's an interesting thing. i've had that before. i was directed by alfonso cuarón before, too. it's always interesting when you're being directed by somebody like that. so much of directing is about communication, and finding the right words, and what it means, and how to convey certain emotions and ideas.

Notes are tricky in an audition, because i find, more often than not, my instinct is right. if they have a preconceived notion about the role and it goes against my instinct, unless it makes sense to me, it often throws off what i'm trying to do. though sometimes they have an insight that i don't because they've been living with the script. i don't have one feeling or another about notes, but it is always a little bit of a red alert when i get one in an audition.
