The iranian people were converted to islam not very much longer after the conquest of the arab world by islam, but they refused to adopt the arabic language, and it's a great point of pride to them that persian culture and the persian language and persian literature survived the conversion to islam. and the conversion to islam also was for most of them not the sunni majority form, but the shia one. so there's a great discrepancy between iranian society and many other of what we think of as arab muslim states and systems.

It's perfectly ok that there are certain people who do not accept islam at all. therefore, to announce that i am a muslim can rub some people the wrong way. but my aim is to show that those governments that violate the rights of people by invoking the name of islam have been misusing islam. they violate these rights and then seek refuge behind the argument that islam is not compatible with freedom and democracy. but this is basically to save face. in fact, i'm promoting democracy. and i'm saying that islam is not an excuse for thwarting democracy.

I won't be a party to a conspiracy to mobilize the arabs against the persians. only the forces of colonialism benefit from such a conspiracy. i won't be a party to a conspiracy that splits islam into two - shiite islam and sunni islam - mobilizing sunni islam against shiite islam.

Truth is found neither in marxism nor in traditional capitalism. each represents a partial truth. historically capitalism failed to see the truth in collective enterprise, and marxism failed to see the truth in individual enterprise. nineteenth century capitalism failed to see that life is social and marxism failed and still fails to see that life is individual and personal. the kingdom of god is neither the thesis of individual enterprise nor the antithesis of collective enterprise, but a synthesis which reconciles the truths of both.

I don't find any difference between islam and islamic fundamentalists. i believe religion is the root, and from the root fundamentalism grows as a poisonous stem. if we remove fundamentalism and keep religion, then one day or another fundamentalism will grow again. i need to say that because some liberals always defend islam and blame fundamentalists for creating problems. but islam itself oppresses women. islam itself doesn't permit democracy and it violates human rights.

Having embraced islam, i felt as if i were born again! i found in islam the answers to those queries which i had failed to find in christianity. particularly, it was only islam that provided satisfactory answer to the question relating to the birth of christ. for the first time i was convinced about the religion itself. i pray my family members might appreciate these facts.
