In my humble opinion, non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as is cooperation with good. but in the past, non-cooperation has been deliberately expressed in violence to the evildoer. i am endeavoring to show my countrymen that violent non-cooperation only multiplies evil and that evil can only be sustained by violence. withdrawal of support of evil requires complete abstention from violence. non-violence implies voluntary submission to the penalty for non-cooperation with evil.

In man's life, the absence of an essential component usually leads to the adoption of a substitute. the substitute is usually embraced with vehemence and extremism, for we have to convince ourselves that what we took as second choice is the best there ever was. thus blind faith is to a considerable extent a substitute for the lost faith in ourselves; insatiable desire a substitute for hope; accumulation a substitute for growth; fervent hustling a substitute for purposeful action; and pride a substitute for an unattainable self-respect.

Nature actually works through intense cooperation. there is competition in nature , but it thrives through cooperation. we don't teach this to our kids. it's actually a violent ideology. it's why kids go into school and bully each other and god forbid do things even worse. cooperation will become the marching orders of the human species or we're not going to make it.

The diversity of mankind is a basic postulate of our knowledge of human beings. but if mankind is diverse and individuated, then how can anyone propose equality as an ideal? every year, scholars hold conferences on equality and call for greater equality, and no one challenges the basic tenet. but what justification can equality find in the nature of man? if each individual is unique, how else can he be made 'equal' to others than by destroying most of what is human in him and reducing human society to the mindless uniformity of the ant heap?

A society that puts equality - in the sense of equality of outcome - ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality or freedom. the use of force to achieve equality will destroy freedom. on the other hand, a society that puts freedom first will, as a happy by-product, end up with both greater freedom and greater equality. freedom means diversity but also mobility. it preserves the opportunity for today's less well off to become tomorrow's rich, and in the process, enables almost everyone, from top to bottom, to enjoy a richer and fuller life.
