There should be a class on drugs. there should be a class on sex education-a real sex education class-not just pictures and diaphragms and 'un-logical' terms and things like that.....there should be a class on scams, there should be a class on religious cults, there should be a class on police brutality, there should be a class on apartheid, there should be a class on racism in america, there should be a class on why people are hungry, but there are not, there are classes on gym, physical education, let's learn volleyball.

Where america has got to move is not growth for the sake of growth, but it`s got to move to a society that provides a high quality of life for all of our people. in other words, if people have health care as a right, as do the people of every other major country, then there's less worry about growth. if people have educational opportunity and their kids can go to college and they have child care, then there's less worry about growth for the sake of growth.

Watch the walls come down, whether it's in the south or on wall street. when the walls come down, what do we find? more markets, more talent, more capital and growth. which means that the race and sex discrimination stunt economic growth. it's not good for capitalism. it's not good for america's growth. and it's not morally right.

Freedom only for supporters of the government, only for the members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively freedom for the one who thinks differently. not because of any fanatical concept of 'justice' but because all that is instructive, wholesome and purifying in political freedom depends on this essential characteristic, and its effectiveness vanishes when 'freedom' becomes a special privilege.

The values of science and the values of democracy are concordant, in many cases indistinguishable. science and democracy began - in their civilized incarnations - in the same time and place, greece in the seventh and sixth centuries b.c. . . . science thrives on, indeed requires, the free exchange of ideas; its values are antithetical to secrecy. science holds to no special vantage points or privileged positions. both science and democracy encourage unconventional opinions and vigorous debate. both demand adequate reason, coherent argument, rigorous standards of evidence and honesty.
