Satellite broadcasting makes it possible for information-hungry residents of many closed societies to bypass state-controlled television channels.

It makes utter sense to stay healthy and strong, to be as nourishing to the body as possible. yet i would have to agree, there is in many women a 'hungry' one inside. but rather than hungry to be a certain size, shape, or height, rather than hungry to fit the stereotype; women are hungry for basic regard from the culture surrounding them. the 'hungry' one inside is longing to be treated respectfully, to be accepted and in the very least, to be met without stereotyping.

Communication always changes society, and society was always organized around communication channels. two hundred years ago it was mostly rivers. it was sea-lanes and mountain passes. the internet is another form of communication and commerce. and society organizes around the channels.

Television is the same as the telephone, and the same as the world wide web for that matter. people who become obsessed by the peculiarities of these communications media have simply failed to adjust to the shock of the old. people who bleat on about the 'artistic' potential of television qua television are equally deluded.

We see that there are two different kinds of...societies: (a) parasitic societies and (b) producing societies. the former are those which live from hunting, fishing, or merely gleaning. by their economic activities they do not increase, but rather decrease, the amount of wealth in the world. the second kind of societies, producing societies, live by agricultural and pastoral activities. by these activities they seek to increase the amount of wealth in the world.

We cannot choose how many years we will live, but we can choose how much life those years will have. we cannot control the beauty of our face, but we can control the expression on it. we cannot control life's difficult moments but we can choose to make life less difficult. we cannot control the negative atmosphere of the world, but we can control the atmosphere of our minds. too often we try to choose and control things we cannot. too seldom we choose to control what we can ... our attitude.
